Our Mission:

Shining Stars Cooperative School is a non-profit organization administered by members of the Park City Community Church’s Children's Ministry Team and Parents of the Preschoolers and Kindergarteners.  The school has been created to fulfill a need in the community for a quality, developmentally appropriate preschool with a Christian, spiritual approach. Shining Stars has been a part of the community for over 13 years. Our school has excellent teacher/student ratios and active parental involvement.  There are two teachers and two parents present with no more than eighteen children in the preschool. The kindergarten has 15 students with one teacher and one aide full-time, and one parent twice weekly. The school’s mission is to provide for the positive growth and the nurturing of children in the context of the love of God, neighbor, and self. No doctine is taught and all are sincerely welcome.

Program Objectives:

Shining Stars contracts annually for the services of  Dr. Cheryl Wright, Ph.D. Dr.Wright is an Associate Professor at the University of Utah, Director of the Child and Family Development Center and an expert on developmentally appropriate children’s programs.  Dr. Wright provides verbal and written feed back on our school.

Our Kindergarten Curriculum:

With our parents present to co-op on Mondays and Thursdays, our student/teacher ratios are low - 2:7 or 3:5 ratio daily. This allows students to learn in a small, supportive, caring academic environment. During the school day children build a solid foundation for language arts, math, social studies, science, music, physical education and community outreach.  The kindergarten curriculum works with Zoo Phonics, Everyday Math, Kid Writing and guided reading programs.  The children also have the opportunity to experience monthly field trips, the Summit County Book Mobile and chapel time with our Pastors. We also have a state of the art computer lab so the students can enjoy hands-on learning fun.

Our Teachers:

Carol Hardy (Preschool)-

Ms. Carol is currently the director as well as a teacher at Shining Stars.  She has a degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University.  In addition to preschool, she has taught 1st through 3rd grades as well as learning disabilities and music programs.  Her real love, however, lies with preschoolers, and she has over 17 years experience teaching at this level.  Carol has been with Shining Stars Cooperative Preschool for eleven of those years.  She and her husband, Bob, moved to Park City 12 years ago and they have three daughters; two married and living in the area and the youngest in Las Vegas.

Carol Beale (Preschool)-

Formerly a Shining Stars Parent and now a well loved teacher, Ms. B. came to Shining Stars with a BS in Early Childhood Development and a Minor in Elementary Education From Florida State University.  She was formerly Education Curriculum Consultant and a Teacher at PC Cooperative Preschool.  In addition, she was Children’s Programs Asst. Manager at Deer Valley Resort after moving here from Florida where she was also a Preschool Teacher.  During the time her children attended Shining Stars, she served 3 terms as Parent-Teacher Coordinator for the preschool and she continues to be an asset to the program in her role as teacher.

Jen Bramson (Preschool)-

Former Rising Sun Mountain School owner and teacher, Jen Bramson, settles into the Shining Stars Preschool routine.  "Miss Jen" has extensive experiences in working with children in various settings.  Before running her own preschool, she taught at Another Way Montessori, was a children’s yoga instructor for The Yoga Center and coached gymnastics at several gyms around the country, including Park City’s own Black Diamond Gymnastics.  She is married and has 2 children.

Kim Denkers (Kindergarten)-

Originally from Massachusetts and Vermont Kim moved to Park City in 1992. Kim's undergraduate degrees are in Psychology and Philosophy, but in 2004 she returned to school to receive her Masters in Elementary Education.  She has also owned her own massage therapy practice as well as taught at The Colby School.  After taking a couple years off to spend time with her family she returns to the classroom.  She is excited and thrilled to be a part of The Shining Stars Cooperative School.

Jessica Mattinson (Kindergarten)-

Originally a Utah native, "Miss Jessica" moved to London England in 1989 where she lived for 20 years. Jessica's undergraduate degrees are in Earth Science and Elementary Childhood Education. In 1999 Jessica received her Masters in Politics and Government from the University of London. Upon finishing her MA she worked for Parliament promoting voter education. After starting a family in 2004 Jessica decided not to go back into the political arena and instead focus on her one true passion, which is teaching young children. She worked for a private school in London as a teaching assistant/aide for 5 extraordinary years. Jessica is honored to be working with such a wonderful team of teachers and parents at Shining Stars. "Miss Jessica" brings lots of fun and experience to our kindergarten classroom!
