This Week in Worship

This week begins the season of Lent which is our 40 day journey to prepare ourselves for the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection. The sermon series during Lent will be “The Seven Last Words of Christ," looking at the sayings attributed to Jesus as he hung upon the cross. I strongly encourage you to make a concerted effort to attend worship each week as this powerful reflection upon Jesus’ final day will bring us to a greater appreciation of the joy of Easter and the significance of our Christian faith.

Sunday we start off with perhaps Jesus’ most profound words, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Even as the nails are being driven into his hands, Jesus continues to pour out his love for us with his cry, “Father, forgive them.” Our transgressions, manifold though they may be, are not the center of the story. The heart of the story is Jesus’ cry for our forgiveness.
