Sandwich Ministry

Come help us serve our hungry neighbors!

NOTE: service time at PCCC kitchen changed to 1-2 pm from 1:30 - 2:30 pm.

Sandwich Ministry is a once a month service opportunity
which happens the 1st Thursday of every month
with 2 volunteer options.

First we make sandwiches at church from 1:00-2:00 pm for the homeless. We then go to St. Vincent Catholic Community Services located at 437 W. 200 S. in downtown Salt Lake City to serve a hot dinner from 4:45-6:00 pm. This service opportunity is divided into two parts though...

The two separate serving opportunities to choose from are:

  1. help make sandwiches at church from 1 pm- 2 pm (new time) with 8 volunteers maximum

  2. serve the homeless dinner in Salt Lake City from 4:45-6 pm with 8 volunteers (preferred) and there is a carpool option available (if you request to carpool we will meet at church at 4 pm & return ~6:45 pm)

  3. or, if you have the time & energy, you may choose to do both!

Signup is required so please click on the date you are interested and register your attendance.

Kristin Russell & Amy Sletta are the group leaders and are very grateful for your willingness to do for those who have no home of their own.

Thursday Book Group: "Inspired"

Thursday Book Group: "Inspired"

Join the new Thursday evening book group at 6pm. We are reading and discussing "Inspired" by Rachel Held Evans.

"Evans knows firsthand how a relationship with the Bible can be as real and as complicated as a relationship with a family member or close friend. In Inspired, Evans explores contradictions and questions from her own experiences with the Bible, including:

  • If the Bible was supposed to explain the mysteries of life, why does it leave the reader with so many questions?

  • What does it mean to be chosen by God?

  • To what degree did the Holy Spirit guide the preservation of these narratives, and is there something sacred to be uncovered beneath all these human fingerprints?

  • If the Bible has given voice to the oppressed, why is it also used as justification by their oppressors?

Drawing on the best in biblical scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, and even a short screenplay."

Let's Talk with Mountain Mediation

At the February 25th Let’s Talk℠ Community Conversations- "Othering: Us vs Them", attendees will explore the psychological and social dynamics of how groups define themselves by creating an "in-group" ("Us") and an "out-group" ("Them"). This Community Conversation provides a safe, neutral ground to share our experiences, listen to diverse perspectives, and discuss the impact of othering on our community relationships and cohesion, aiming to foster mutual understanding rather than provide immediate solutions.
